I’m interested in learning all about small town churches, especially since I pastor one! Small town churches also just happen to be the focus of my doctoral research. The vast majority of churches in the United States are small (<150) and also in a small town. I am mixing practical theology with sociology, ethnography, and philosophy in trying to find ways to help small town churches navigate in a rapidly evolving climate of change.
This blog will serve as a place to share findings and ideas as I enter the project/dissertation phase of my Doctor of Ministry program.
I cannot say “thank you” enough to Audrey for her wonderful support as I have journeyed through this program.
I’m also grateful for amazing professors at Logsdon Seminary, who sharpen me every day, especially Dr. Larry Baker and Dr. Wally Goodman! Dr. Daniel Day has been an invaluable resource as well! Finally, I’m thankful to Urbanna Baptist Church for the many
ways they are supporting me in this process.
Feel free to browse around. The resource section is filled with summaries of books and articles I have read. Over the next few weeks I’ll be creating social media accounts to complement the blog, so be sure to “follow” and “like” for all the latest. I’ll also work on creating links from the resource section directly to the resources themselves, especially the books. I sincerely hope you enjoy this as much as I do, but then again, that would make you a bit insane. 🙂
Congratulations.
I admire you. I spent 15 years as pastor of rural/small town churches and recall joyous (most of the time) days in those cultures. The people loved on our family and the memories helped inform my understanding of Good News. Rest of my work has been in Oklahoma City churches and OU Medical Center.
How can I be of help to you?
Raymond
